Please, please, please -- can we never mention WhiteWolf-related anything ever again? I've such an abhorence to VtM it's scary.
A simpler choice would be Anne Rice-ean vampires. Yes. Much goodness, much like VtM *involuntary shudder*, and inherently easier to remember. I bet Dawnola could describe Rice-ean immortals and their quirks, hmm?

That's exactly why I asked this question. I play a goodly number of characters basedon the VtM style, but have never played them tabletop. I know a handful of us are highly familiar with the background of the set up... disciplines, etc. But it's never been "You ned to shed x number of blood points." ~*laughs*~ We don't and never have played that way when basing characters on that system.
I think what Laura was trying to explain was the intricacies of those kinds of vampires. They are far more detailed and complex to play than "standard" vampires and can be less fun for people for that reason. The point was to explain the options, not to suggest paper and pencil gaming. Rice-ean vampires are simmilar to the "traditional" vampires, though they have some enhanced abilities as well. Sires have no access to their child's minds, increased senses, hightened emotional reaction, speed, strength, and sunlight, a stake, beheading and a few other random things that we would never need to deal with here can kill them. So they are very traditional too. The major difference is that they are unaffected by religious items-- no holy water, churches, or crosses harm them. Some, in fact, take refuge in the cathedrals.
That would be a main difference. ~*shrugs*~ The object here is to pin down how the vampires are being played, in what tradition. It doesn't look like VtM is going to fly and that is really what I was concerned with when I inquired about it. It's like night and day: Vtm and everything else. It makes things simpler and more creative without it... but in some ways lacking rules of interaction and play. ~*smiles and shrugs again*~ Just let us know when y'all decide...

Well i think we should all put the breaks on, lol. this is James baby and i'm sure he knows what he intended his Vampires to be vulnerable too, so lets just wait and see what he says when he comes back!

Good idea, Yorkie C. And even if he didn't have a specific plan in mind for the abilities and weaknesses, there's no reason it cannot be discussed openly here and a compromise that suits everyone be found. I do know that Morthika has never had and most likely will never have any paper and dice, but that doesn't mean we can't take some ideas from those kind of games.

No word yet on James, but hopefully he should be back soonish. His absence shouldnt hold up any rping for anyone, as Im sure you can all carry on in your selected threads. In the meantime, I dont think that we need to wait for him to start this conversation about what kind of vamps we want to play. Yes, he may have specific ideas about the types of vamp in this plot, but I am sure that as there are different clans, there can also be different types of vamps.
One question I want to ask.. is where do you guys stand on Vamps being able to fly/levitate or the old fashioned ability of turning into bats?
Cause you all know how much the Mori loves her bats.. ;D

Flying and levitating hold no problem with me. I'm always, always partial to the Rice-ean vampire...and after they reach a certain ancient age, this power becomes second nature to them. Turning into bats is another story, though...

ummmmmm no word on James yet, and Im kind of stuck without him.. I also had a guy set up to play Anain but hes gone missing too.. *sighs* so unless someone wants to take on that role for me, there is not alot I can do *twiddles thumbs* Im trying to think of something... *tries harder and rubs her only two brain cells together*
