‘Special Operative Seraphine Phoenix of Department 34, High Court of London; Code Name: High Lady of Fire’.
The Court hushed, as Seraphine Phoenix spoke.
‘Present and at your service your honor’.
She continued proudly, as usual her voice was muffled. The silky deep tones of her voice carried through the courthouse. If it wasn’t for the few humans present, she wouldn’t be required to wear her headscarf; she watched them carefully. Officially a human had to be present in High Court hearing or investigation. Or so they thought.
‘You have been investigating this... Human Liberation Front for several months now. What have you discovered?’
Seraphine surveyed each member of the High Court. The High Judge was Silverfin Faunlin, his pale skin shone through the headscarf that shrouded his face, brilliant intelligent green eyes watched carefully from behind the curtain all Elves were required to wear in ‘human society’. The judges on either side of him were less familiar. Two humans sat to the right of the three Elves. They weren’t members of the High Court, rather Queen Victoria’s eyes and ears in Elven Jurisdiction.
‘I wish I had more to report your honor. The Human Liberation Front pertains that Elves are positioning the human race to become our slaves... They fear our control and deem they must battle for their liberation as a species’.
The Two humans gave each other wary glances they second began to scribble furiously on notepads and quill.
‘Preposterous!’
Said the second Elven Judge.
‘Forgive the interruption your honor’
Said one of the humans meekly, raising a hand.
‘But the notion isn’t precisely a rarity. It’s a concept that is sometimes spread among.... the lesser educated...’
The third Elven judge gave an irritated sigh, Seraphine spoke up again.
‘Indeed your honors. By and large what vexes my department. And I agree, is the efficiency and order in which the front is structured. Whilst we have no proof, it has been suggested that the Front is amassing weapons. With their numbers and armaments, it’s not wholly unfeasible that they could do some harm’.
The three Elven judges gave each other cautious looks. One of the Humans however, stood up.
‘Surely you don’t expect us to believe that a group of humans could pose any risk to the high London Elves do you?’
The human sneered. From behind Seraphine’s white headscarf, her sunset coloured eyes blazed angrily, physically changing colour from a dark orange to fiery yellow.
‘The Human Liberation Front is not only irate at Elves sirs, but also Queen Victoria and parliament for allowing Human Beings to become second class citizens here in London’.
The Human immediately sat down deflated. The High judge looked at Seraphine carefully.
‘Well said, High Lady of Fire. I will remind the Human Parliament representatives to mind their place’.
The Second Elf, Seraphine thought she saw the Elves smile, it was hard to tell when an elf was smiling, but it was a trick that Elves were forced to pick up, the slight curve of the eyes.
‘What’s your next plan of action?’
The High Judge asked, returning a stray dark hair behind his the folds of his hood. His dark suit was immaculate.
‘While the group seems to be an underground association, using the right channels I have discovered that a rally is being held tonight. And apparently ‘Open to all’.
The Third elf gasped audibly.
‘Far too dangerous Agent Phoenix!’
Seraphine smiled, her sunset coloured eyes returned to their docile hew.
‘If it is just a peaceful rally, there shouldn’t be anything to worry about. If not I can handle myself’.
Seraphine stepped out of the Courthouse, the bailiff out front passed her back her belongings, two red hilted oversized pistols. She took the weapons and felt the weight of them in her hands. Attached to the hilt of each pistol were silver chains with many small silver charms dangling off them. Seraphine was dressed for work, not high society. True some people gave her looks of distaste; women did not wear pants after all. Seraphine wore a white headscarf that wrapped around her head and face; a slit for her eyes the only visible part of her face. Since Henry the 8th the law was enforced because Elves were simply too beautiful to exist in Human society, they were a... distraction. Seraphine wore a Lacey blouse that was fitted around her midsection, because of her corset; she wore heavy white leather pants and military style boots. Everything Seraphine wore was white, all white, Always.
Seraphine surveyed the once busy London Street, it was unusually quiet. Sighing, Seraphine stood on the side of the curb, waiting for the steam tram.
