Well, I suggest we start with an open tournament, all starting equally. Then, as the tournament went on, we could say, for example, that whomever was eliminated in the first round or two (depending on the amount of players) would remain lightweight, then the ones to fall in rounds 3-4 would be medium, and in the final or semifinals heavyweight. Once that was settled, we could make a league, sort of, where points were awarded per match according to your level and that of your opponent. We could assign a set number of points per category for those who had participated in the tournament (say, 5 for light, 10 for med, and so on), and 0 to any newcomers who joined after that. From then on, everyone in the league would be able to rise or fall a category by having enough points. For example, if Bobby the Ogre joined in the tournament and made it to round 4, he'd start the league as a med and have 10 points. If he was a good fighter and managed to win a few fights and get to 20, he'd move up to heavy. But then, if he wasn't good enough, he'd lose matches and be tossed back to med category.
Or something like that :D. I think such a setup would make the whole thing look more organised, more professional. What do you think?
Oh, and also... I was thinking we could have not only the actual arena, but also a small world where the contestants could be while not fighing. Maybe a tavern, where people could place their bets on the next few fights, and where contestants could meet after games, shops, where the winners could spend their earnings... that sort of thing. Make it a living, breathing place, instead of just an arena.

I like that. We should have three sub-boards, one for OOC, one for fighting, and one for what Ayorah came up with. I think we pretty much have this set. Who's going to be the moderator?

*smiles approvingly* I'm realy happy to see how this is coming along.. and youre right Tak.. we do need a moderator. Since so many people have so many ideas and suggestions for this thing, I think that we should start accepting applications. If you are interested in the job, please submit your ideas and suggestions (as well as any fighting/refereeing/judging experience you have) here please. Everyone can then read this and vote for who they think would be best for the job. I think what Ayorah just did was perfect; offering her ideas and suggestions on how the actual tournament could be run. It gave me a clear sense of how it could work, and based on her suggestions, I would definately want her to be involved in the operating of this arena, even if she doesnt become the moderator. ... actually.. I think with something this big we might need a few people on board. Perhaps a group of moderators would be better than one.. an uneven number so that if there are any discrepencies that need to be taken to the vote, they can be dealt with quickly. I think five people is too much and unneccessary so perhaps three could REALY be the magic number? I know a few of you have had experience in fighting or judging in arenas and tournaments before, so even if you dont want to be a moderater, it would still be cool if you guys could speak up and let us know what works and what doesnt, it will help us to build this to the specifications of all Morthikans. Once we have the moderators worked out, I think we can then start working on the rules, the first and most important of all has to deal with autoing ie: what classes as an auto etc. Ive only fought in one or two fights/ tournaments before and I know that this was an issue both times. *grins* K.. thats my two cents for now. Keep up the great work guys! *rewards all with Gummi Berry Juice*

I'll see if I am able to scrounge up any of my old fights but no promises. Two of the sites went under, and the only one that might have some fights on it I left and was then banned from (long story).

Well, I would like to fight in the tournament, but I wouldn't mind being a mod in it, either. It's fun too n_n Ok, yes, as Mori said, we need to get the mods together and start putting things together and I also think 3 would be the ideal number. So, I'll nominate myself as one. Any other takers?

I nominate Priestrevan, he came up with the idea, so it seems fair.

Well, Priestrevan doesn't seem to be very active at the moment... anybody else?

Well since there doesnt seem to be any other takers Ayorah, maybe you should step up to the plate and get started? Like I said, I realy liked your ideas you put forth and Im looking forward to seeing this developed. So.. unless anyone objects.. Id like to officially make this your project.. if thats okay with you? To start with you could be the moderator, and then if you want or need to take on any helpers, we can sort that out if the time comes, okies? Let me know what you think and Ill help out in any way I can. ~Mori

Great! That's fine by me n_n
I'll start to work on it then. You'll have to explain to me though, how do I make the areas inside the main section and such. I have loads of ideas but I'm not certain how I should put them into being.

A few small suggestions for Arena-style combat:
Leagues: It's a good idea to group fighters into different classes, but in the interest of good RP, I don't know that your win/loss record should really have anything to do with which category you fit into. What I mean is, while I'm sure that Dino the Dynamite Disco Dancer is flashy and fun to watch, he just isn't in the same league as Killyu, Devourer of Worlds. Perhaps contestants should be categorized and broken up into different leagues, based upon each characters abilities, with ranking per league, each with their own champion? That way, by pitting fighters of similar power levels against one another, guys like Dino stand a fighting chance, and Killyu gets a real challenge.
A Leader board! Every good fight club needs a leader board, to display win/loss records (or maybe percentages), betting odds, sponsors, etc. }When I feel like throwing in the towel, I choose Gummi Cola! It puts the bounce back in my backfist! Er, sorry... maybe I got a little carried away with that one...
Challenge System: Just in case Dino just HAS to fight Killyu, perhaps to defend his mother's honor or something, he can issue a Challenge. And just to make it interesting, if Dino wins, he gets extra points in his own league. Killyu can decline, at his own discretion, or he can accept the Challenge and smash the presumptuous popinjay. And eat him.
Other Things: Maybe not everyone wants to fight, but still has the competitive spirit? Perhaps there could be other events than the fisticuffs (ala Colosseum) for the less combat-inclined among us (don't imagine there's too many of those, but the diversity could attract some attention from folks that wouldn't give an Arena a second glance...)
Just a few ideas, guys, (I've always loved the Arena theme). Use or discard them as you see fit.
