Okay, so you’ve arrived, taken a look around, checked out Newbyville and read the No Negativity Clause. Now, if we haven’t scared you away yet, you probably want to Role Play but aren’t sure how to start.. hopefully this thread can help you out with that.

The first thing you should do is post up an introduction in the Players section of Morthika. Tell us a bit about yourself, how you found the place, your RPing history (if you have one) and your general preferences of what style, race and plot you like to play in. This will give the other players here a chance to “meet you” and introduce themselves. A lot of players around here are invaluable for their help, support and friendship so enjoy the meet and greet process and hopefully make some new friends.

Now, you need to look at what you want to start RPing. In Morthika, the choices are endless. You may choose from an already established plot, or seek to create your own storyline.

Joining an established plot:

There are currently ten different realms in action in Morthika, each with their own plot and storylines. If you read one that you think might appeal to you, then contact the realm moderator and ask them if they are looking for more characters to join. If they are, they can give you the rules of the place, as well as a list of characters available, or you might suggest your own that could possibly fit into what has already been established. (The Recruitment Tent, located in Newbyville, is also a good place to find out what plots are currently accepting new players.)

The moderator of your chosen realm will be able to help you get started playing in which ever story you choose, and then all you will need to do is create your character. (See Character Development).

Creating your own plot:

Obviously, most people at Morthika are very creative people and we all have new storylines that occur to us, which we want to share with other Morthikans and hopefully develop into a storyline or new plot. EVERYONE at Morthika is encouraged to develop and share their ideas, and new realms can be created to house new plots. The only problem with creating your own plot, is finding enough interested people to play the roles.

As we are a relatively small site, we only have a handful of players, and most of us are already committed to a lot of different characters in a lot of different plots. Because of this, most of us will not take on a new character or start a new plot unless the idea really appeals to us enough to make more time for what is already a daunting schedule. That said however, there are always newbies arriving eager to start in a new plot, so never be afraid to pitch your ideas.

If you would like to start your own plot, head to the Plots and Events section of the board and pitch your ideas to the masses. If the idea is well received, you are then welcome to begin playing it out in the realm of “Randomville”. This realm is where plots get played out that don’t have their own realm. Of course, if your plot becomes rather large with a lot of interested players in it, then a realm will be created for you upon request.

Once you have decided which realm you want to play in, you need to create a character.

Character Development:

The best person to help you with creating a character is the creator of the realm or storyline you want to join. Ask questions so that you know the timeframe the plot is being played in, the surroundings and any special characteristics that you might need to observe in order to play in that particular plot. Hopefully, the moderator of the realm will display all this information for you already on the board, so please read the OOC or description threads carefully.

Once you know the basic requirements for your Character, its time to think about what Character you would like to play, and how you want to incorporate them with the current storylines available. Your Characters background, morals, alliances and enemies as well as their physical and race descriptions will all have an impact on your Character, so take your time with the Creation Process.

A general guideline: Try to resist making your character a big bad ass, super powerful dude that can kill everything in sight but whose only weakness is he’s allergic to peanuts or something. If you haven’t already got one, I suggest finding yoursef a Muddy at the Mudpit, as they will be able to help you with your first character creation in Morthika.

A general layout of things you need to decide on to help you create your character:

Name:
Race:
Age:
Sex:
Occupation:
Weapon Skills: (If any)
Magic Skills: (If any)
Physical Description: (what your character wears, the colour of their hair/skin, eyes, height, scars, build etc)
Background History: (How they came to be where they are currently in life is always interesting and can be integrated into the current plotline to make your characters introduction a bit easier i.e.: A current plotline based in Sunnydale, and dealing with Giles and Buffy could welcome the arrival of Giles’ niece or Buffys friend from camp.. )

(both the description and background history can be as short or as in depth as you prefer)

Now that you’ve spoken to the moderator of the realm, found out what you needed to know, and created your character, its time to play!

While some of the roleplay here does happen in live chat or on messenger, most of the play occurs on the boards. All you need to do to start your post is either start a new thread or reply to a current post in your chosen realm. Again, ask your moderator or your Muddy for any help you might need.
