^^... Just outside the perimiter of the Dark Forest that houses the Dragons Den, stands a large open field. The field is almost consumed entirely by a thick white fog that seems to absorb everything upon its path. Suddenly, a wall of wood can be seen through the thick fog. Branches, broken peices of boat, and even railway posts have been tied, nailed or melted together to form a wall of timber thats height is concealed by the heavy grey clouds that hang overhead threatening to erupt at any moment.
Through the fog, a figure dressed in golden brown can be seen approaching. Tossing her amber curls over her shoulder, her green eyes flash as she approaches you with a hand outstretched in greeting. When she speaks, her lilting Irish accent rolls like waves on a stormy sea.
~ Merry meet and welcome to Bendelsain! M'name be Moridanu and the townsfolk have asked me to serve as your tour guide for your first trip to their fare town. If ye care to follow me ~
Being careful to avoid the large spikes that stick out at all angles on the timber wall, she places her slender hand upon a portion of wall and pushes against it. With a loud creak, a small rectangular opening is revealed as Moridanu leads you into Bendelsain.
Upon arrival, one is nearly overcome with how busy the towns entrance point is. People bustle about the busy main street, brushing shoulders and knees with werebeast, trolls, vampires and demons of many shapes and sizes. Pixies fly about at break neck speed while an old troll growls and snarls at any who come across his market stall. His stall is the first port of call for those entering the large marketplace that is to the left of where you now stand. The marketplace is clearly the focal point for all this activity, however Moridanu directs your attention to the right.
~ As ye can see, here be the stables. The stablemaster is a jolly chap and will house, feed and water your steed for only four gold peices.~ Moridanu pauses to stroke the nose of the black mare who has poked her head through the timber fence that serves as the perimiter for the stable. She smiles at Stan - the stable hand before walking next door.
~ Here be Bendelsains Barracks. Bendelsains finest warriors train here for action, and - unless their duties are required in defense of their town, their services can be hired out for the right price...~ Moridanu trails off as she is distracted by two well built gentlemen practicing sword fighting in the front yard of the barracks. Clearing her throat, she has one last glance at their glistening bare chests before crossing over the alleyway that runs alongside the barracks and the Blacksmith acrross the way. Gesturing down the dark alleyway, she whispered so that the Blacksmith would not hear there approach.
~ This alley leads down to the more - shall we say, upmarket side of Bendelsain. I shall take ye there shortly, but for now...~ She approaches the Blacksmiths store, motioning for you to remain silent. She points to the interior of the store, where the blacksmith can be seen forging a large battleaxe in a roaring pit of fire. Whispering, Moridanu informs you that the man is quite insane before raising her voice loud enough to be heard by the hunched over man as he forged his weapon.
~ Whatever be ye choice of weapon - may it be blades, bombs, bullets or brass knuckles - Daghdar will provide ye with the best weapons that money can buy!~
Chuckling to herself as he offers her a gap toothed smile, Moridanu hurries on to the large victorian style building that towers over the small Blacksmith store next to it. The marketplace is still thriving and it stretches up the the left hand side of the road that you are now leaving as you follow Moridanu up the three steps that leads up to the porch. The weather beaten boards of this building have been painted a horrible shade of crimson red, that in its faded condition resembles spilt blood. Grimacing slightly, Moridanu pushes open of the swinging doors that leads into a smoke filled bar that takes up the bottom floor of the Dancing Devil Inn. A large spiral staircase leads up to the rooms in the next two stories. The bar is almost filled to the brim with an assortment of undesirables. Three troll like figures are playing a game of cards on an overturned barrell in the corner. Slamming the cards down on the dusty barrell, one troll calls out "Barfuk!" while dodging the swinging axe that is coming from one of his card playing buddies. Smoke hangs like a cloudy mist in the stagnant air as a large orange creature with blue horns smokes a cigar through an offrice that appears to be his ear. There are only a handful of souls that appear to be near human, and the barkeep is one of them. He is polishing a filthy glass with calloused, bulbous hands as he glares at Moridanu peering in through the open door. Satisfied that she has given you enough of a peek, she lets the door swing shut happily.
~ If ye are feeling particularly brave and require a cheap room for the night, then the Dancing Devil Inn provides cheap accomodation and the finest brews this side of the river. As ye can see, the clientelle leaves alot to be desired, but this is usually the place that soldiers and assasins come to drum up buisness. Because of this, for those interested in such matters, The Dancing Devil is worth keeping an eye on. Oh, and considering the exterior and the bar down below, the Inn actually has some fairly decent rooms. I have stayed here myself on occasion.~
As a loud crack of thunder crashes overhead, Moridanu walks down the three wooden steps and leads you back out onto the dirt road. Walking past the Dancing Devil Inn on the right, and the Marketplace Inspectors tent on the left, she leads you to a crossroads. In front of you, rages the river - flanked on either side by two docks that house the many boats of both townfolk and visitors alike. There are two large warehouses, and the one on the left houses a boat builder who has boats available for hire for a small fee. Moridanu turns left and leads you down the alleyway that runs alongside the river. The marketplace is still on your left, while the raging river is now on your right. As you reach the back of the marketplace, Moridanu points up to the long dirt path that leads up behind it.
~ This pathway leads to Bendelsains... - what shall I call it... uh... lets call it Bendelsains Bouidouir. While its ladies are renowned throughout the land for their abilty to pleasure and relieve a man, they are also known to be talented pickpockets, as any man who graces their house soon comes to find. This pathway also houses The Healing Spot, a place where those inflicted by magickal ailments can be healed by Mages and Wizards. There is also a small pixie photo studio hidden down there, but I strongly reccommend against venturing down this path at all. Only misfortune can come from this place, so let us move on. ~
Turning on her heel, she does a complete about face, to be walking back into town. The river now rages on your left, as you head back alongside the marketplace. Passing the warehouse and the dock, Moridanu leads you past the last warehouse and points to a quaint shoppe that is attached to the warehouse and backs onto the river. A square yellow sign that reads "Clannads Curiosity Shoppe" swings rustily in the cold wind that is starting to blow more harshly. The clouds overhead seem to be running into each other, as they consume the sky, and plunge Bendelsain into toal darkness. Almost instantly, burning torches ignite in strategic places around Bendelsain, illuminating the town in a pale yellow glow. In front of the Shoppe, a single street lamp begins to glow, revealing the cobblestone path that leads past the shoppe and around the corner of the back of the Dancing Devil Inn. Still pointing at the shoppe as she pulls the hood of her golden leather jacket over her tumble of curls, she glances up at the sky before looking back at the shoppe
~ This place be a hidden treasure - all the pirates, sailors and travellers come here to pawn their trinkets almost immediately upon arrival into this town. They usually intend to buy back the items but Bendelsains resident "light fingered ladies" soon make that an imposiblity. And whatever these fools havent pawned, the ladies end up fleecing from them anyway. They then come here to peddle their wares, so it is a never ending cycle. Ye could spend hours exploring this shoppe and still never seei all that it contains. I bought this coat here not too long ago.. ~ she twirls around modelling the long golden leather jacket that is perfectly molded to her thin frame as it falls to the ground with a flare.
~ I would take ye in for a tour, but... it is otherwise occupied at the moment. The owner of the shoppe however, has asked me to give ye this. ~ she hands you a small purple card with a silver star emblazened on it. ~ This be a discount card.. present this on your first visit and get 50% off.~
Moridanu leads you past the Curriostiy Shoppe as you walk down the cobblestoned pathway that leads past the Dancing Devil Inn, and the small shop that was housed at the rear of the Inn. Moridanu sweeps past the shop which seems to house medical supplies and a small man who is staring out of the window with alchahol induced red eyes. Leading you down to what is now a lush green hill that forms the bank of the river, she points down a long gravel driveway that leads to a large manor style building surrounded by lush green lawns and a tall wrought iron fence. ...^^

^^... ~ This be the Avalon Academy. It be teaching our youth the things they need to learn, whether it be Domestic Studies, Fighting or Weapon Training. I myself teach a course in the Dark Arts... Our headmaster is a wise man by the name of Talisen Phoenix~ Lightning flashes again as the thunder answers with a crack so loud, that it seems to scare the clouds into erupting as a cool mist begins to fall, softly at first and then harder until it stings your skin as it hits. Grabbing your hand, Moridanu runs up the hill, leading you up onto the porch of another large Victorian Style building. This one is painted a dark midnight blue, with shutters that glow a bright silver. Pointing up the hill, Moridanu directs your attention to the building directly behind the back of the stables. Behind the shop you can see the tall timber wall extends all around the town forming a strong fortress to protect its townfolk from those outside.
~ That shoppe be Pandora's Potions. Pandora be a wonderful friend of mine, and a powerful witch. I help her run the store in my spare time, which is sadly dwindling lately. There is a small secret bar under the store, and ye be most welcome to attend upon your next visit to Bendelsain. That building next to it is Baghdars Bed & Breakfast. ~
She points to a more homey style building that appears to be only two stories high. The shutters are painted a dark green against the white washed walls and the flowerbeds at the windows are all in full bloom with yellow and pink flowers.
~ In my humble opinion, Baghdars be the best place to stay in Bendelsain. As the name suggests, a healthy and delicious breakfast be included in your small fee of 6 gold coins for a cosy room. However, if your taste be more... upmarket, then THIS is the place for you.~
Gesturing to the building which housed the porch they were now standing on, Moridanu waves to someone inside before turning back to you.
~ This be Hotel Hecate, Bendelsains most upmarket place to stay. A room will set ye back a pretty penny, but from what I have heard the service and pristine rooms are well worth the money. ~
Lighting flashes again, as the thunder continues to crash loudly overhead. Shielding her eyes with a slender hand Moridanu looks up to the sky in time to see a large black bird flying toward the Curiosity Shoppe. Smiling she turns back to you once more.
~ And that, my friend, be the grand tour of Bendelsain! Oh! Before I forget, the marketplace is a hive of activity for a reason. It serves as a transporter, with many of its marketstalls being shopfronts for portals to other dimensions and planes. Some stalls actually do sell wares, and good ones at that... but the others... ~ she chuckles slightly to herself ~ my advice would be to steer clear of the marketplace alltogether. Some poor fools have thought they could cut a few hours off their travelling time by using the portals and have never been seen since. Also, the marketplace seems to be the breeding ground for some real scum - like characters, so heed my warnings if ye wish to fare well in this town.~ Drawing her hood closer around her head, she curtsies once before waving you farewell.
~ Enjoy your time in Bendelsain, and if ye have any problems, I be staying at the Baghdars B & B. Room 14. Till next we meet... Blessed Be~
With that, she turns on her heel and strides out into the rain, dissapearing into the grey mist that falls all around her like a torrent of tears...^^
