Oooh I’m excited! Oh and it goes without saying Moriface, our two characters are going to clash. Naturally the Princess would not be used to being told what to do? Oh you can count on it. *smiles sweetly*

Just so everyone's aware for their initial posts, seeing as many of the characters seem like they're gonna have at least some history together, and in case you guys start while I'm away, my character won't have signed up to go on the journey when they were taking applications, so isn't leaving with everyone else.
Whether or not it gets started while I'm here, he'll still be a late entry, and if anyone's character ends up having a problem with a wanderer joining their group, I'm sure Mori's would probably vouch for her family priest.
Just so everyone's characters aren't all, "That priest-dude's late, what a bum".

I'm digging the creative vibe we've started. I can't wait to get started! :-D
Talisen, the link you've come up with sounds cool. Here's some ideas to refine it a little further:
My character is from a clan renowned for its Summoning pedigree. As such, I imagine he received most of his training in-house, though he may have received special tutoring outside the family. His father may have contracted an equally well-known professional to teach his son. If your character is an old-school adventurer type, maybe he knew my guy's father. Perhaps your guy and my guy's dad were pals or something, way back in the way back. After the death of his father (and the rest of his family) my character experiences a time of recklessness and wild abandon before skipping town to make his way in the world. Perhaps he went to your character, or they may have even traveled together for a time, before my character's past finally drives him to leave the kingdom he knows to wander the lands beyond. More Ideas Randomly Spawned by Fresh Inspiration
Unique Summons vs Generic Summons
Unique Summons Obviously, we've all got some ideas for super-sweet Summoning action, like Tigore the King of Predators, or the Patron Saint of Murder. These would be Unique Summons, the rare and powerful one-of-a-kind creature that changes the face of the game. Their power is unquestioned, but their utility should be limited, else they become unbalanced characters. They may serve best as the rare and powerful Summon that you bust out in extreme situations or very specific circumstances.
Example: Thunderbird could help speed your travel from one end of the continent to the other by setting his Rain Bow upon the earth and allowing you to traverse its length.
Alternately, Unique Summons might have a wider variety of uses, but in this case perhaps they are the only Summon your character can access (they could have more than one, but in this scenario, changing Summons should be difficult and time-consuming, not to mention physically and mentally taxing), and their powers should all exist within a certain realm.
Example 1: Hyperion, Avatar of the Sun Can banish darkness, destroy vampires with a glance, melt ice, dry your wet laundry, and hurl spears of white-hot fire. With the exception of the last item, these are all within the purview of the sun.
Example 2: Ahlat, The Bull God Provides physical strength, sexual potency, berserker rages, an aura of intimidation, and an edge in single combat. All things you could relate to a bull.
Example 3: Grain, Lady of the Harvest Gaily hand out loaves of bread and mugs of brew, create enough hay bales to block a doorway, increase stamina for repetitious physical tasks, and help ugly guys get laid.
Generic Summons The serpent that slips up your rival's pant leg; the earth elemental that runs his tongue over your sword to hone its edge to razor sharpness; the wolf-spirit that tracks your foes; these are examples of Generic Summons. Typically, they don't have names, and are rarely good for more than one thing. Like a tool or weapon, these Summons fill an intended purpose, but that's usually it. The benefit to Generic Summons is that they can be whistled up and banished as the need arises without breaking the game. Again, Generic Summons should fall in line with a theme or sphere of influence, usually relating (by at most 3 degrees) to the Unique Summon currently in use. Alternately, The serpent may bite the unwary, the elemental can shift soil with a shrug, the wolf-spirit can communicate with others of its kind via howl and relay what they're saying. The drawback is that once they're banished, the next time you call them it most likely won't be the same snake/wolf/elemental you called up last time, and as such retain no memory of previous encounters or uses. Therefore, the wolf cannot attempt to pick up a scent that the last wolf was following, because it has never smelled it.
Geez, I should be designing my own RPG.
So you all understand, this is complete BS. I intend to counter-write all of this in a future post :-D Just some thoughts I wanted to put out there.

Ok. So what sort of setting is this? What sort of country are we from? So I know what kind of style to write myself up as. Is it arabian, european, japanese, generic fantasy, arthurian, eh?

My vote is for a anime-style setting. Or high fantasy. Or maybe we could all play sumo wrestlers.
Honestly, I'm up for whatever.

Sure, sumo rps always Sound like they'd be awesome. Then they always devolve into a game involving rat tails and hurt feelings. ;D
anime style has a nice overall feel to it. I could see something like straight fantasy with arabian/high fantasy pieces mixed in liberally. So Ali Baba and the 40 Elf Thieves is on the table?
Like the generic summons concept. I might have to have a water elemental around to mix some sweet drinks for the party. I'm not sure if they'd have personalities reflecting my char or have inverted traits. If the historian is bookish, does he only manage to summon imps that look like they were torn out of a frat party. Demonic hats askew and backwards, with their spiked collars popped up maybe.

*wrinkles nose* I freaking hate anime!! NEVER have understood the appeal.. but eh.. thats just me I guess. I was thinking more of a setting similar to the one in the Mummy movies with Brendan Fraser.. obviously not in Cairo, whatever land/country/realm Dakkon comes up with.. but ya know, with big guns, automobiles (but oldish big truck types), old dusty tomes, linen suits etc.. Of course things like tech and stuff could be added in to suit the individual Characters and whatnot, but thats the kinda era I imagined when I first got interested in this plot. My girl is going to come from a far off exotic land, kinda like Arabia I guess.. a desert land, lots of oasis', silk scarves hiding faces apart from gorgeous dark eyes, etc. Oh and Camels. Love the camels. ;D She is going to have ruby ring, that holds the key to her main personal summon: the crimson dragon. He can be used both as a mount, and a weapon (breathing fire, super strength etc). Since we are going into the CITY OF SUMMONERS or whatever its called, I thought most of us would be actually finding ways to summon once we got to the city.. my girl for example is there to oversee the operation on her fathers behalf, while also secretly looking for a particular artefact for daddy dearest unbeknownst to the rest of the group. Of course she is going to have her own secret agenda that even daddy doesnt know about as well. I just thought, what are the odds of all us turning up there with already the ability to summon? Wouldnt that be the reason why some of us are actually going to this place, to find this secret and be able to use it? Guess I just got a little confused when I first read it thats all. Im happy to merge all our ideas together, I just think we need a bit more of a structured general guideline in regards to the setting and limitations. Just my two cents.

When I first read the description I was under the impression that the characters would be able to summon right off the bat, but then I thought that maybe it turns out the power they're looking for in the city is the power to summon.
The setting I pictured at first was sort of a Trigun setting, a desert wasteland with crumbled buildings and lost technology, steampunk style, where they had sort of rudimentary guns and engines. That would fit with the idea of trying to find the ultimate weapon - if I wasn't ruining the twist here, a plot twist could be the ultimate weapon is just a modern tank, and it turns out the world in which the story takes place is a post-apocalyptic Earth, where just about all technology has been destroyed and long forgotten.
The idea of the summons reminded me very much of Fate/Stay Night, where the main characters each had an epic hero linked to them that they could summon to fight their rivals' heroes (Hercules, King Arthur, and Gilgamesh to name a few spoilers in case any of you were considering watching it). The summoner character had an innate magic capacity that could be used for small spells, like reinforcing a weapon or shooting a fireball, and also for summoning their hero. The hero would leave when dismissed or when defeated.
I related it to anime so Mori would understand, seeing as it's all she talks about all the time. Sheesh.
My character will be able to summon his helper, but never progressed with his summoning training beyond that point, so it's only good for a one-shot. He tries to avoid summoning to begin with, but if he does, the summon despawns a minute later because he has little to no control over it. But I'm sure character development will change that eventually. This is providing, of course, the characters can summon before reaching the city.
Dakkon, since you're the big boss running the show, if you need to know the plot point details of my character and his summon for story-related purposes, let me know and I'll send you a PM. I don't wanna spoil the story for everyone.

If you dont make it as a brilliant author afterall, there is always comedy for a career babes. And I like your idea of a setting.. it could work nicely. All up to Dak of course, since its his baby. ;D

Funny that Boston should mention Trigun, that's exactly what I was picturing when I read the description. That's kinda why I let the word "anime" slip out. The whole world's been blown to shreds, and what remains is covered in sand and blood. The rare green places are virtually unknown, or else have become the hubs of massive, sprawling desert metropoli, jealously guarded and harshly ruled by the powerful warlords that inevitably dominate in such power vacuums. Interestingly enough, this falls in line nicely with Mori's picture of the world. All the antique mystique (ooh, a rhyme!) of an old Mummy movie would be easy enough place in a post-apocalypse setting. Collections of artifacts from bygone eras filling palatial manor houses, likely with hosts of servants working to keep the grounds arable. And, of course, tech is for the rich and mighty. But wait... Mori's princess is rich and mighty, and therefore surrounded by techy trappings. Perhaps she likes slumming? As for summoning... What I got from the original description was that Summoning was a lost or dying art. Most people think of it as a fable, fairy tales for their children. It's the rare few that have any inkling that it still exists at all, let alone the knowledge of how to do so. Naturally, those in power have stores of hidden arcana, and maybe a few are lucky enough to find someone capable of performing the deed. Okay, so that last bit was generated by the inner storyteller. I can't help it. But that's what inspired the idea of a family legacy. Generations of mercenary Summoners, passing the Art down through generations, culminating with my character. If this doesn't jive with the accepted storyline, I'll be happy to make another character. Just let me know, eh? I'm easy. Anyway, it seems that we need a little clarification from our Storyteller on this one. On a side note, it sounds like everyone's as impatient to start as I am. Does next year seem a little far away to anyone else?

Yes. Yes it does. Ok, since we’re all putting our two cents out there. I like Boston’s idea of the whole Steam punk desert, limited technology, there are no computers, but there are old rifles, pistols, and junk, but they’re not common. Also our group would have a small convoy of trucks, again, not common as petrol is SUPER rare and the whole art of petrol has been lost…. Ok that came out stupider than I meant, but you know what I mean... I also like the idea, of our characters having the ability to summon beforehand. I like the idea that it’s our characters birthright. And something they’ve been practicing for their whole lives, at varying degrees. The WHOLE point of the expedition is to find the ULTIMATE weapon to ward off war, not the ability to summon, because we can all do it. but maybe our summons are all small fry, UNTIL we get to the ruined city. Where they go nuts. And In Dakkon’s original brief he said our characters came from the city of Ashura, which is peaceful but on the brink of war with other nations. Which would mean our characters are all from the same kingdom. Which makes sense because they’re all connected anyway, it doesn’t make sense that Mori's Characters is from a distant country, but her knight is from somewhere else. So Mori would be OUR princess, not just some foreign princess. So Sorry Mori, if we go with that idea, your character will loose some of her mystery but it doesn’t mean she won’t have mysterious ulterior motives. So that’s my vote. Ashura which I assume would be a walled city, but suffers the constant threat of war, from outside tribes that are well organised. It also makes our journey to the ruined city extra dangerous. I think the plot should start with our characters gathering everything they’re going to need before heading out, at midnight, in secret. So that’s my vision! ;D

Well, she can be a mystery still to anyone not directly "in the know" of the royal family. She could be the oldest of many siblings, and as such, has been hidden from the world to keep her safe from harm, or the opposite, the youngest and was a surprise to the parents, and so they kept her secret. So melee weapons are the standard, guns are rare, we can all start out with summons. Desertish. K. Calculating...
