Ohh, I really like the midnight starting point. Very dark, deserty, mysterious.
Somewhere between trigun, steampunk, fantasy, classical arabian seems a perfect place. I definitely have a distinct image of the princess riding around in a beaten up jalopy with her knight.
That's an awesome idea to have the summons react to the city! There is big mojo in the city and on top of having summons locked away I could definitely see it having an effect on other summons.

Heh. So we currently have people in tunics and silk with swords, guns, driving around in cars on the sand. Interesting lol Like i said, lets get this all glued down so we can write up specifics. A royal guardian can fit anywhere, it's just a matter of who he is and how he accomplishes that job.

Okay I can make the realm up tonight.
All I need from Dakkon is the name of the realm and any sub boards he wants me to make for it.

The summons reacting to the city would be a good touch for my guy, who just barely got the hang of summoning at the start of the story and then immediately abandoned the art.
If the group was The Avengers he'd be the Hulk, in the sense his summoning capabilities are extraordinarily unreliable and his control over it is shaky at best. Every adventuring group needs a loose cannon with a dimly lit, mysterious past.
If everyone's leaving at midnight and my dude's joining in media res, I'll just hang back a bit with my posting until I see an opportunity for him to be spotted by the convoy, recognized by someone, and then picked up.

Okay, one more idea before I go write up my bio.
Inanimate Summons How do you guys feel about summoning things other than characters? This is mostly for dramatic effect, but extremely useful in a pinch. Say...
You're trapped inside the dusty tomb of a long-dead pharaoh, with no lighting of any sort. You stumble around for a few minutes before you chance upon the wall sconce, and lucky you! There's a torch in it. If only you'd packed a book of matches... wouldn't it be handy to be able to conjure up your Zippo, which you left in your other pants?
Of course, summoning inanimate objects shouldn't be your free pass to pull a grenade out of your pocket every time a fight starts. Objects should be pre-determined, likely written out ahead of time. Think of it as having a backpack, but without the sore shoulders. A set collection of things are designated as "with you", to be pulled out as needed, and banished once more when you're done with it.
Sure, sounds like a parlor trick, but designed for utility. In fact, for fighter characters like Sabis', it could be extremely useful. While some might be inclined to strap a 40 lb. axe across their back, most people would find it cumbersome and awkward. Wouldn't it be easier to just reach out, pull the axe from Elsewhere, and put it right back when you're done?
My character would likely summon up lock picks, a pry bar, rope and hook, pitons, a small sledge, a lantern (already lit, of course), his weapons, a mouse, a cat, a monkey, a table and chair. Okay, maybe not all of that, but you get what I'm saying.

I was leaning towards an absurdly large sword too because of the whole semi-animeish feel to it. Like, redicilous sized sword, as big as the character. Would be neat to be able to just swing that sucker out anywhere and roflstomp someone's face.

Hmmm... I'm not really a fan of inanimate objects. It's a good idea; I think it just makes everything a little TOO easy. I think it's better if we have to think creatively rather than logically. Instead conjuring up some matches, you could conjure up a fire imp, or a teeny dragon or a fire elemental, something along those lines.
Not that anyone would abuse the ability; I just think it's a little TOO convenient, if you know what I mean. But just my opinion, I like the idea of summoning up characters than objects.

Possibly. I'm down whatever route we choose.

Okay, just for clarity's sake... Do we have a set list of what our character can Summon? I'm a little leary about arbitrarily calling up whatever I need as the situation arises. Like Talisen said, it's a little TOO easy that way. If we each have a predetermined list, it forces us to diversify our arsenals, eh?

I personally think there should also be a limit to the number of summons too, at least until we get to the city and find whatever we are going to find there.
For example... you could have one summon say for me, it would be the dragon. Then if we go with Barts idea of the bag of tricks, you could also have the bag/sack/box with pretedermined things in it that you can summon when the need arises, but that go back into the box/bag etc when no longer needed. And I guess, another summon would be okay.
I was thinking that when we write up our character bios, our summons need to be included in the fact that we need to describe them, and what they can do. So, for instance, if I have the dragon (well its pretty obvious what it could do, but I would still write that up) and say a box of tricks, I would need to say in my character bio what exactly is in the box... like Bart mentioned.. say maybe six to seven different items? That way, we have some kind of control over people just summoning shit out of thin air to make a bad situation better, and we need to be creative with our items and the possible solloutions to problems they could provide.
This probably made absoloutely no sense but it's half past six on a Saturday morning here, and while I have no idea why the hell I am even awake at this hour, Im all itching to get stuff on Morthika done today, so wind me up and watch me go!
Patrick, as soon as you tell me the name of the realm, and anything else you need in it I will set it up. I know a few of us are itching to at least get our character bios up. ;D

I don't think it'd really be necessary to post ahead of time everything our characters can do, can summon, or is carrying to make sure someone doesn't just pull out the ultimate weapon, that seems a bit untrustworthy of the other players. I trust you all to not suddenly decide that your character can summon Odin to one-hit Zantetsuken the boss. If everyone's a responsible player and a decent writer, then I'd like to think that we can all be trusted to create a character with limited capabilities, who only gains new abilities through relevant character development. I, for one, am fully capable of conceptualizing a character entirely in my mind and then putting it down on paper without throwing random things on it that would suck the fun out of the plot - and I'm sure you're all capable of the same. But then again, I've only ever Rp'd with a few people here, so I guess maybe this is something that's been a problem in the past. Of course, I won't complain if we have to post bios, I'll do what the boss tells me to do. And yes, I am just trying to avoid having to post all my character's secrets before the story begins. Really, what fun is it if everyone knows the plot twists before the story even starts?

Babes,
By no stretch of the imagination was I implying that we cant have our little secrets. They make the play sooooo much more interesting, and I know how much you particularly like to keep your fellow players guessing. ;D
And I agree with everything you said. However, it HAS been a problem in the past, and I have only RPed with a few of you to the extent to know what you do in certain situations.
That is why I suggested SOME limitations. Of course its all up to Dakkon. Like you, I will follow his lead, and do what is requested. But in saying that, you dont have to tell everything about your c, or even the summons... just as long as it has strengths AND weaknesses, then I dont think there would be any problems.
