And believe me, that's helpful in the collection of the Sandman trades...

As for the doctor-ish thing, no problem! As long as I can play a mutant too, I'm in! Also... is the doctor/assylum in on it with the Big Bad, or just coindidentally working for the same elimination/control of mutants? You know, there are plenty of these SL's in the comic world... I'm just wondering which one we're going to tap near....

When I first thought of it, I thought it would be cool to have the big bad, plus ONE doctor/guard who actually isnt in on the whole big bad thing, and thinks they are just normal, pyshiatric patients or something.. maybe they can even help the inmates escape later on down the track? Dont know.. up to you guys.. *shrugs*

And .. dont shoot me.. but wtf is Sandman? I thought it was a Metalica song, but obviously its something else..

Ok i got another idea. What if the doctor/mutant has the "latent" power of telepathy, and just thinks they're going nuts when they start hearing voices in their head? Maybe they don't realize what's actually happening at first, and then when they do they can help out their fellow mutants. (this is for the one doc that isn't in on it.)

It was just a thought, and also I would play the other telepathic person if that would suit you just the same. If not I'll play whatever I don't really care nor am I picky.

That is hilarious Danoo... if a lil' cute... heh heh yeah i like her. n' Dawn i soooo envy that... *pouts* i've been poor so much lately that i haven't bought a title in about four years... & i'm also bumbed to find out that i've lost my gold chromium trade of the Age of Apocolypse graphis novel for Excalibur.... but onto the plot, i was totally kidding about the Penance thing, i mean i love the c, but i don't think i could do them justice... erm but a quiet fire starter or ice maker *chuckles* i'd like to try my hands at .

I like the idea of the doctor having similar telepathy skills and THATS how they find out the truth, but Ill leave that up to Dawnola as its her C, so its her call.

Keep the suggestions coming in guys! Once I get my short story finished for this workshop thingy, Im going to be developing this plot and writing the start up, so nows the time to put your feedback in.

What about the place itself? More like a hospital or a prison? What about the guards? NPC's? Or does someone want to play one? Thoughts are good peoples.. sharing those thoughts are even better! ;D

I like the idea of a hospital but it's also a prison, you know what I mean? It looks like a mental hospital but the second someone slips up, it's a prison, like the whole bars slamming down over each door and stuff like that, I'm thinking Girl Interrupted Hospital.

Anywho, because I'm a glutton for punishment, I do intend to join. I'm going for the violent patient who uses their <yet to be decided> abilities in order to attempt attacks and escapes repeatedly. They will not be contained peacefully and spend much of their time duking it out in the name of freedom. She may be responsible for inspiring others, possibly groups, to attempt escape as well, and is most likely infamous with the big bad (who, if Ziggy, isn't going to get to torture <>Poke<>). She is willing to use anything and anyone regardless of the consequences to get out. I was thinking either a fire starter or someone who could take electricity from appliances, outlets, etc and control it briefly (ie Pull the electricity from the building and cause a power outtage.) If I go the firestarter route she may not yet have control over it and the guards just assume she's an arsonist.

Yeah, i agree, i was thinking of the place like a mental hospital, hell it is a mental hospital. The 'inmates' would be the high security wing or something, so it would be a prison. If i understand Moribug right no one knows anyone else has any special abilities. Those that do are told they are freaks, and unnatural, and are punished for being how they are. There are normal doctors and patients at the Hospital, just in the normal wing.

One thing that could start tipping people off, is that people at random are taken from their cells, and never seen or heard from again, but if one listens closely they can hear screams and cries through the ventilation.

I think the majority of the Guards and Staff would be either current or ex military, all deeply involved in the hospital's dark secret. The hospital has more than enough funding, because a portion of the government wants to know what makes the patients the way they are, to try to awaken their abilities in other people.

I haev just been able to skim through all of these latest posts, but I'll be able to read more closely later tonight. I'm down for anything, really. I'm all about having the doc be someone like Jean Gray with mental telepathy... that would kick ass! Maybe she's hiding it so she isn't institutionalized too! Oooo... plot twists abound!

Go immediately to read Neil Gaiman's comic... now... without hesitation! Of all of the people in the world, this group here would be the ones I imagined woulf know and love Sandman! Or Morpheus, or Dream-- whatever you want to call him! Seriously... the mythology Gaiman created is amazing! I have to go teach violence in Film now... I'll be back later to chastize y'all...

K.. so heres what Im thinking:

The place itself will look like a normal psych hospital from the outside. Im thinking a large rectangle shaped building that is three stories tall. The outside walls are made of a pale cream limestone that has no grooves or texture and is completely smooth (making climbing down the walls, alot more difficult). The roof has shingles, some of them loose, so if anyone does manage to get out on the roof, it wont be very secure. There will be a 12 foot electric fence that surrounds the compound, with about five rows of barbedwire wrapped around the the top of the fence. An old sign that says something like Parasych Park will be swinging from a rusted post and there will be a few old trees in the front yard.

Inside, the place will have different sections. There will be the main point of entry for visitors and new patients. A cheery, light filled, spacious centre with large single beds and what appear to be kind caring staff. Although there are SOME patients who do live here, it is mainly the patients who have had their brain fried from the different "treatments" they have been subjected to and are too out of it to realy know what is happening or warn others who are coming in.

A large door equipped with a topline security system seperates this part of the hospital from the rest of the centre, but as soon as any visitors or parents who are committting their children/friends are gone, the door is opened, and the centre resumes its normal life. The large single bedrooms are locked, regardless if anyone is in there or not, and the "kind, caring staff" go about their buisness in the rest of the compound.

The middle part of the building is for "treatment and therapy". and there are a lot of different labs set up to test the abilities of the patients as well as torture the patients if they decide not to submit to the tests. Given the extremities of this torture, alot of patients have died in this part of the compound already and it is feared and dreaded by the other inmates.

The end part of the building is the main part of the compound, and where most of this plot will be played out. There are two rows of rooms on either side, one for boys and one for girls. Though they have normal lockable doors, a barred grill can fall down and lock down whenever the admin sees fit. Each sex must share ONE large bathroom that has open stalls and no doors. The two rows of rooms are seperated by a long, wide rectanglur room that sits in the middle of this end of the hospital and houses the "recreation room." Patients of both sexes are allowed to mingle with each other in the rec room though they are watched carefully by the two guards on duty as well as the twenty different cameras that are hidden strategically around the room.

The rec room is divided into three sections.

The Dining Area provides the patients with some sort of food, though more often than not its some kind of grey slop. Long tables can sit up to six people on each side.

The Lounge is at the other end of the room and it provides the patients with some worn sofa's and armchairs, and an old black and white TV with a snowy reception that cant be fixed no matter what they do. Its the one way that the inmates can have any contact with the outside world, and Im thinking they would mainly have it tuned to the news. Of course, the administration can take away the TV at any time if there is something going on in the outside world that they dont want the inmates to know.

Between the Lounge and Dining area is the main recreational part. With the knowledge that people with special abilities sometimes like to bend the will of a game, or inaminate objects, the administration has supplied the patients with a battered pinball machine, a pingpong table that is rocking on some warped legs, a deck of cards, some board games such as cluedo, monopoly and chess and anything else you guys think they should have...

There is also a large green meadow out the back of the compound, perfect for group games and such, but the patients are very rarely allowed outside.

Tell me what you think of that layout before I write it up guys.. and PLEASE keep the suggestions coming.

I think those that have obvious powers should be taking some kind of pils to keep it under control, or something.

Punishments for acting up could be pills that cause severe hallucinations, either audial or visatory. There could be self containment rooms, padded, fireproof, no outlets, the light is well out of reach and secured so nothing can get at it to drain it's power. These rooms could be used for those deemed too dangerous to interact with anyone else or anyone who breaks the rules.

Finally,. there is 'The Box". it is an extremely small box, enough that someone can sit with their knees drawn to himself, but not anything more, or stand up. The light that comes in is through the ventilation grate on the door. Needless to say, it gets very hot and stuffy, even more so because it sits outside in the hot sun. When it is too cold for 'The Box' they move it inside into a heat lamp area, so it is much the same as it would be in the summer. There would be more than one'Box', maybe, five or so. Maybe have some kind of nerve agent that is leaked in slowly that would cause hallucinations, but to a greater extent than one of the self containment rooms, or just in The Box instead of a self containment room.

I don't think the guards would feel any need to clean out The Box, so it would stink of fear, sweat, blood, etc etc, adding to the fear that it would inspire. The metal could be something that isn't malleable, or magnitic or anything so no one could manipulate it, or they are given drugs that don't allow them to use the full abilities of their mind, so they are dazed, semi lucid, but not enough to use any of their abilities. Depending on the guards on duty, they might add something to the box to terrify whoever is inside.

yeah, I think medicating them is a good idea. That way, if a test is planned to test their abilities, they can be taken off the drugs for a few days, so they arent too wiped, but kept drugged up all the other time so they dont do too much. of course, MY girl is going to be an old hand at dodging her pills, so she is NOT going to be drugged up, but its up to you guys what you want for your C's.

I also love the idea of THE BOX. Absoloutely love it.
