You could always create a new character Sab. And Leets.. you were Ava I believe.. Big Mamas right hand gal.. If youre happy to continue witht this character, then Bart and I are ready to start a new chapter. Would love to have you on board. xo

I'm terrible at new characters I have afew I never have used here, but I do LOVE using character I know well, makes them muche easier and more natural to play. So far my two best that are unused are my monk, and my... umm... half-dragon.

Well maybe the inquisitors are the dudes trying to regain control over the seas?
Maybe they’re agents of the last ‘nation’ left?
Rather than hunting witches they could be hunting pirates? BUT I don’t want to crap all over Bart’s idea, so just a suggestion; we could still try and do both.
Ooh Leets, your hot pirate chick/History Buff, could be searching for the truth about the world, OR why the Cataclysm happened in the first place?
Sab, you have to get used to creating new characters eventually, and when do you have a better opportunity!? Part of the fun of Role-playing is getting the opportunity to create new characters, specifically tailored to fit into a universe.
I’m excited!

SABIS: Don't be scared to step outside of your comfort zone. I mean, if there was ever a place where it's okay to experiment with your creativity, this is it! We all know there's great things in that brain of yours. I think we're all eager to see you bring something fresh.
LEETAH: Now would be the perfect time for another character to step into the Prohibition story. Mori and I have been a duet for a while on that one, and it would be great to see another character take center stage.
MORI and DAN: I'm not sure the two ideas are a good fit. It would be possible to cobble them together by reducing the witch-and-hunter aspect to a minor sub-plot, but I feel that it would lose its punch. A post-apocalyptic pirate story is quite complex already, and there's no reason you couldn't use some of my witch hunter ideas (like the Last Nation and pirate hunters -- very nice, Dan!), but I think keeping the two seperate is best. Trying to force them together would just confuse the theme, and detract from both concepts in the end. But hey, my creativity is flexible as hell, and I'll give just about anything a go.
Hot damn, I've missed this place.

Rawr. Alright. Come up with a plot and I'll seek inspiration in the genre. I may re-use a name, but I'll make sure it's one I haven't used here yet

I just wanna see what I'm up against and then I'll go through and see what I can come up with. I actually start all my characters using D&D (3.5) and then adapt them from there.

I think two might be a bit ambitious considering the current state of affairs.. but I might be wrong.. An idea I had for the post apocolyptic one is that water is scarce.. despite there being water everywhere.. its salt water.. fresh water is hard to come by. There are alot of contraptions to collect rain water.. but maybe it hardly ever rains? Just thought it would put more of a desperation into the mix.. the same goes for plants.. like fruit and vegetables.. no soil to plant them in etc.. so if there is a few here and there.. they would be VERY MUCH priceless and in hot demand... thoughts?

The scarce water/vegetation angle sounds a lot like 'Waterworld,' and I thought we were attempting to stay away from that...?
I vote for one major plot. I love the idea of two, but you're right, Mori -- we only have a handful of players as it is. I, for one, have to gear up for another year of school soon (teaching, not student-ing), so I wouldn't have time for two, anyway.
Like I said: my sister's interested in returning to RP for some pirate-y action, so there's a plus. She and I have semi-established pirate characters, too...can't beat a set of cutthroat, high-seas sisters. Haha. This should be fun -- can't wait!

Agreed, two plots may be a bit far-reaching, what with the low body count around here. I was just trying to liven things up a bit ;-)
As to the water/vegetation bit, well... we're talking about a post-apocalyptic world, right? And if I might reinforce a couple of the ideas already brought to the table, this one's easily solved.
Dan suggested that the world be drowned with the melting of the ice caps, right? That presents a number of possibilities in and of itself. See, the ice caps are made up of fresh water, and introducing that much fresh water into the world's oceans would ultimately lower the salt content of the whole. Probably not to a drinkable level... unless humanity has had enough time to adapt to the salt content? Well, maybe not.
Speaking of the human aspect of the story, the people of the last age had to realize their world was changing -- the caps melting, the oceans rising, their lands and cities being swallowed by the relentless waves. If they were a people of technological advancement, they would have scrambled to find solutions to this world-ending crisis. The tech aspect actually brings a lot of possibilities into the story, such as:
Devices that provide fresh water by refining sea water, or pulling moisture from the atmosphere
Personal equipment that allows people to walk on water, or breathe underwater indefinitely, or travel through the water quickly without a vehicle. And jet packs!
Giant machines that, when provided the proper fuel, continuously produce a nutritious (if tasteless and gnarly) algae that can sustain human life (thus making the production of fuel for the engines an utmost priority)
And what about the different vehicles of the world? Watercraft, obviously, or it wouldn't be much of a pirate story. But what about:
Submersibles? Is the last-age tech strong enough to provide underwater vehicles? To take it a step further, is it possible that their technology allowed for entire cities to exist underwater?
Aircraft? Certainly not the airplanes we know and love; there's no room for runways (except perhaps on military aircraft carriers?). But that doesn't mean that flying vehicles didn't survive . Anything that could take off and land vertically could be useful on a ship large enough to carry them. And of course, the Final Fantasy dork in me demands that I bring up the possibility of air ships. But that introduces a whole separate realm of possibilities, like flying cities, sky pirates, and a separation of the human race between the Sky People (who live in the sky) and the Wave People (who live down below). Naturally, this would mean a separation of social class, racial bias, and even war between the two...
Okay, I've gone way too far afield on this one. This whole post-apoc pirate thing has got my creative juices a-goin'. I'll stop now.

See and I was going to bed last night I had the thought... if it's almost entirely water, where do we get wood for new vessels? Where do we get metal, salvage wrecks? I think RARE land, but not NO land would be better. Maybe a series of islands no bigger then japan, scattered all over the place.

The "scattered islands" idea is brilliant. And it would make sense, too.
To be honest, though, I'm not down with tons of technology. I thought Tal said "no Zombies, lasers and technology. Just Pirates, super post, not recently post." Of course, I'd be happy to bow out if other bodies voted for all that. I guess I've never really liked loads of gadgets, sci-fi stories, etc.

Yeah. I mean, certain technology might have survived and people just USE it. De-salination is one such tech that we have NOW, and if afew of the de-sal plants survived on islands, people would just need scrap to keep em running. Scrap that can be salvaged from shipwrecks underwater or floating wrecks. Same for other metals for making swords, cannons, etc. All of these islands would, of course, prominantly trade in the most useful resource of all in this world: lumber. They grow it, cultivate it, and trade it as their main source of income.

So how we going to do this? Does someone want to take on the role of GM or is it going to be all freeform?

I would love to start things off. As for GM I thinks it’s possibly too strong a word, I wouldn’t mind pushing people in a certain direction. But I don’t think we need a GM. We’ll keep it open at the present. Good idea Bart, but no technology. I would say maybe a TINY bit of steampunk esque technology mishmashes together, but that’s it. The World went to hell in a hand basket over one hundred years ago. What was left people have forgotten how to use and everything’s fallen into disrepair or under the sea. I would guess the ships are made up of a number of different things scrounged together; most would be stolen, so the owners themselves don’t know where the material came from. A scattering of small islands vying for control, and Water is scarce; it would have to be. The most successful and infamous pirate would have to have a large chunk of fresh water. How does that sound? Before we start, let’s work on a crew. Who wants to be a captain of their own ship and who’s happy to be a crewmate? I think I’ll be using Tiger who was originally a pirate. More than happy to be a crewmate. Who else? What’s your ship called if you’re calling Captain? Also you don’t have to be a pirate, you can be an ordinary person who gets caught up in the action, or you could be the opposition, whatever that is, haven’t worked it out yet
