So Im at that point where Im growing frustrated again at the state of this place.. We keep getting players dropping by, and for a while we had heaps of oldbies sniffing around but then.. nada. I think we need an EPIC story like in the old days, that people could use to sell Morthika to other players. We need action people, so Im going to start up something new soonish. Just want to make sure that if I dedicate the time and effort to running a proper story (as I feel it should be run), then I want to make sure that EVERYONE is happy and is getting something they want out of it.. So.. genre? Let's talk some ideas and see what we come up with..?? I've already spoken to a few of you in private and these were some of the ideas we had.. We still love the wild west.. Deadwood style. Haunted House... (Ghost hunters go wild.. lol) And then there is the epic tragedy that I tried to start years ago with the wrecked cruise and the subsequent castaways on the tropical island... ahhh such potential! LOL Please guys, share your ideas with the group and lets get something cooking? *bribes with Gummi Berry Juice* Blessed b sweet peas ~Mori

I’m in!
I wouldn’t mind doing the ship wreck again, maybe this time we start on the island, or as the ships sinking.
That being said I’m feeling very high fantasy atm, so I would love to do something like that too, but I’m easy like Sunday morning, I’ll do anything, come find me Mori and we can discuss.

I know what you mean. I'm frustrated, too. The people I'd been playing with earlier simply up and left. And a lot of the plots seem either frozen (because everyone's gone) or so hashed out that I feel rather like an outsider trying to get in, to be quite serious. But I'm willing to hang around...this place is like an old home.
In regards to a new plot: whatever happened to that film noir/20s and 30s-era thing we discussed a long, long time ago? That might be fun. And though we're all practically choked with high fantasy at this point, I guess I'd be down for something like that, too. And I heard "pirate," so my ears pricked fo' sho'.

Good to hear you are on board Leets.. I don't know.. I just get so freakin AAARGH!! over this place. I agree with you that it must be hard for people to start up in current plots, which is why I'm going to just close the War to the people who are already playing it. That aside, apart from my solo RPs Im enjoying with Tim and Josh, there is no other RP going on here, and that does my head in. I mean Morthika is NOT a site for me to RP on with other people. It's supposed to be a haven for other like minded people to come and share their stories with the world while playing with other talented people. We have the talent. We have the people.. and now with people like Leets and Tim, we have the connections. Leets you work at a writing centre! Tim, you are already a published author.. trying to get your name out there and mixing with author types. Surely we can get something going ?? I still like the idea of us all working together to get something published. I mean, who else is doing that? Pitching the idea of a story that is written by at least three or four different people all around the world in the style of RP that we do.. I think it's a good concept and one that we should run with.. But hey thats just me.. As for plots... *sighs* I've messaged Bart and asked him whether he is coming back for the Prohibition plot we wanted to start up. Im just waiting to hear back from him. Ive proved with the last email that if I put the word out there, I can get some (if not the majority) of old players to come sniffing around again but we need something to keep them here, and get them excited. So... ideas? Pirates??? LOL I could defs do Pirates!! *hugs tightly* Thanks so much to you both for responding on this thread. Hopefully we get some more interest..?

I would be super interested in a post-modern, ultra cool, post apocalyptic plot. But I do like the pirate idea, a few of us probably still have pirate characters from the last try a couple of years ago. Ooh! Ooh! Post apocalyptic pirates!!!
Problem solved!
*excuse the typos, typing from my phone, but I'd only ever do it OOC. The end.

Count me in.
I've been gone a while, but sadly most of the plots I was in froze long before I lost reliable internet. If they've all gone extinct, well... it makes me sad, but that's how it goes. And, since the last remaining die-hards are ready to start something new, I'm happy to join the discussion, at least.
I've been doing a lot of writing lately, but I've been working on the same story for months now (Byzantine vampires at the end of the 12th century, kinda cool I guess) and could use a break. I'm all for high fantasy, whether it be magitech, super-science, or something with a Far East flair. Pirates is... doable. And last I remember, Fast Eddy Carlon was fresh from the joint and ready to take on the world (with the help of the beautiful dame, that is). Pick your poison, folks, and I'll stir the brew.
Just to throw out an idea I've been kicking around, if only to add another option: I'm thinking my next pen-and-paper story will be about witch hunters, and it occured to me that it could make for interesting RP. It's got potential: faith and flames, swords and sorcery, and the epic drama that unfolds when a hunter falls in love with (or perhaps is charmed by?) the witch. You could even make teams for RPing: Hunters, Witches, Priests, Villagers... humph.
Anyway, keep me updated, all. Mori, thank you for ringing my bell again. I've been gone for too long.

What’s the go? Post apocalyptic pirates? As well as Noir drama?
Never really got into the Noir, Even though I loved my character Holly, so I might skip it otherwise I’ll just post once and loose interest. Seeing as Noir was already there before, we’re still planning another epic plot yes?
What does everyone think? I need answers people!

Post-apocalyptic? I don't know. Maybe. That genre's been done to death in American movies during the last three or four years. I'm not all that interested.
Like I said, though: I'd be down for pirates or the film noir idea, maybe high fantasy (if it's unique enough).

Leets, when I say post-apocalyptic pirates, I don’t mean Zombies, and other post apoc stuff we’ve all seen a thousand times before. I envision the Human Race (or what’s left of it) has managed to rebuild to a sea-faring society, so no Zombies, lasers and technology. Just Pirates, super post, not recently post. So our dudes and dudettes wouldn’t be majorly educated, thus not know much about the world as was. I would also imagine the global warming thing was the go, which is why pirates have prospered and are in some way necessary, there’s not much land left. Minus the Waterworld scenario, that movie sucked balls. In a perfect world, you wouldn’t know it was post apoc until you sailed into the Statue of Liberty a la Planet of the Apes. Any more appealing? Just think it’s a little different and dare I say slightly more interesting than a straight up Pirate plot. All that being said, I would be adverse to the straight up Pirate plot… Or we could do a Supernautral-esque Pirate Plot, like Pirates of the Caribbean. Thoughts? Feelings? Criticisms?

In case it wasn't obvious, I'm still in for Noir. And Dan might be onto something with his Pirates of the Apocalypse. As for my witch hunter bit, well...
Okay, Mori, here's what I've come up with so far:
Sorcerers have existed as long as humanity has, and most are not inherently evil. However, man is falliable, and power corrupts. Many "witches" use their powers for ill, becoming bandits, slavers, and tyrants. The ruling Institution (read: the Church) has placed a ban on magic of any kind (with the exception of those approved by the ruling bodies). This has given rise to the Hunters, determined men and women of faith who take upon themselves the burden of defending humanity from the depredations of the wicked witches. They locate, track, and slay (or capture?) magicians of all stripes in an effort to free humanity from the witches that would rule them.
That isn't to say that all witches are bad, or all hunters are good. As stated, power corrupts, and some Hunters are no better than Church-sanctioned murderers that use their authority to terrorize the people as thoroughly as any witch. It wouldn't be so unusual to hear tell of benevolent witches tracking down and slaying the hunters harrassing their loved ones.
This concept is workable in many settings. The obvious would be medieval (a la the Inquisition) but this is by no means the best fit. You could play it in high fantasy, with the witches being fantastically-overpowered and the hunters equipped with relics of faith (and a faith-based sorcery of their own) that allows them to combat the foul sorceries. Or, for a real twist, you could go with... post-apocalypse! The destruction of the last age has removed humanity's level of education, and thus, their collective disbelief in magic, allowing the return of sorcery to the world. Witches are the minority and on the defensive, fighting just to scratch out a place in the world, while Hunters wield the remaining high technology of the Lost Age to exterminate them.
I've got a lot of ideas for this one, and these are just a few. I bet this uber-creative bunch could take it and make it even better... if they were interested.

I suppose that's better than the depressing as hell, Cormac-McCarthy-esque crap that's been circulating for (what feels like) forever. ...Dibs on the history buff/hot lady pirate role. Haha.
I've always been interested in the noir plot (like I said, I've got the billion-year-old AIM brainstorming session to prove it), so I'm definitely down for that. Too bad I can't remember what character I took for a test run...
Man. I'm glad we've got some bodies breathing around here. The creativity is seriously inspiring.

Man. I'm glad we've got some bodies breathing around here. The creativity is seriously inspiring. I'll drink to that.. I love both concepts.. is there any way we can combine the two??? I really love the thought of the pirates, post apocalyptic.. hardly any land.. everybody either on ships or floating cities.. Could we bring your idea into that Bart?

And depends on how much fantasy is involved in any of em. I don't really have anything quite pirate-themed, but i have afew I could convert. Besides Sabis, haha.
